The perfect complement to Fabspeed’s 981 Boxster/Cayman exhaust upgrades, this high-performance intake plenum from Innovative Pro Design and upgraded 82mm throttle body provide substantial power gains by increasing the efficiency and flow of the engine’s air intake system.

The new 981 Plenums also benefit from an internal dimpling effect, now standard on all future Plenums. This internal dimpling allows for control of the boundary layer and maximization of air flow, similar to how a dimpled golf ball travels farther than a smooth one. Controlled turbulent air creates less friction and “tumbles” over a given area more efficiently.

Power gains with the 981 Competition Plenum are virtually the same as with the 987.2 Competition Plenum, delivering 14 horsepower and 12 foot-pounds of torque at the wheels. The primary power gains from the IPD Plenum begin around 4000 rpm, continue through to redline, and are fully realized in the 6000 rpm range. IPD performance gains remain above both factory power curves throughout the entire rev range. This design offers a superior and more efficient intake compared to the factory component.

The IPD Plenums are products of efficiency that simply improve intake air flow and increase air velocity. The Y shape design and dimpled interior surface make air flow more laminar (less turbulent), dramatically improving power and torque across the entire RPM band. Smoother, more optimized intake air flow will enhance the performance of any engine. The more efficiently an engine breathes, the more efficiently it produces power.

These Plenums deliver impressive power gains regardless of other modifications. Their superior design optimizes flow while increasing air velocity for any Porsche engine, producing any level of power. The patented Y design provides impressive performance gains for both stock and highly modified Porsches. The more efficient design of the IPD Plenum will always outperform the factory air distributor, which becomes even more detrimental to performance as power and torque outputs increase. The bigger the power, the better the IPD Plenum performs.

The Plenums produce substantial gains for both turbo and naturally aspirated applications. While Turbo Plenums typically yield more absolute power gains than NA Plenums (due to the higher base power of turbo engines), the percentage gains across different Plenum applications are almost identical, around 8-10% depending on the specific model.
